Day 22: A Train
Travel Wisely
Holiday travel can be so stressful. There are just so many decisions to make. Do I travel at all? Do I just make a short trip? Do I have all the requirements to fly? Add travelling with children to the mix, and that list gets much, much longer.
Decision fatigue is real during the holidays. That’s when you are overloaded with information and exhausted from all that processing. When you finally hit decision fatigue, your ability to make sound decisions diminishes. It can also make you irritable and unable to focus. You might even shut down from making choices altogether.
How can you help decision fatigue?
Automate and simplify decisions that you can control--things like when you wake up, what you wear, etc.
Give yourself permission to make the holidays a time when you can lower expectations for yourself.
Sit down with those close to you and discuss decisions together. This is where knowing your values comes into play.
Above all, remember that the holidays are meant to be a time of joy and relaxation. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to have the “perfect” holiday experience. Focus on spending time with loved ones and enjoying the little moments. And if things don’t go according to plan, remember that it’s okay.
You’re doing the best you can.
